Microsoft Windows 11

Hello,

PLEASE HELP ME RESOLVE THIS ISSUE!

Several days ago, my cursor suddenly disappeared from my screenand my touchpad became unresponsive. On my quest for a solution, I followed an advise to uninstall "I2C HID Device". I found 2 "I2C HID Device", one had a GB115_1-1732051622459.png

and the other didn't. I uninstalled both and that solved the problem for about 2 days. This solution doesn't work anymore and it's been irritating. I use a HP Pavilion x360 convertible 14t-dy100 which I just learned has been discontinued.

I am reposting this issue from another user because I have the same issue. I already tried updating the BIOS but it didn't work. I have also tried dowloading new ELAN touchpad filter drivers from the official HP website but it always fails (even with HP assistant) and I tried to update the I2C HIID driver by "selecting from the drivers in my computer", but it still fails (see first image attached).

Why is getting through to a living breathing human HP agent so challenging?!!

Hi @GB115,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the issue with your touchpad not working after the Windows 11 update on your HP Pavilion x360 convertible 14t-dy100 could be caused by a conflict or corruption in the touchpad drivers or system settings.

Here's a step-by-step guide to resolve this issue:

1. Verify Touchpad Is Enabled

  • Shortcut Check: Press Fn + F12 (or the appropriate function key for your model) to enable/disable the touchpad.
  • Settings Check:
    • Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad and ensure it’s turned on.

2. Update Drivers Properly

Since the I2C HID driver plays a crucial role in touchpad functionality, reinstalling and updating the correct drivers can help.

Steps to Update I2C HID Driver:

  1. Open Device Manager:
    • Right-click the Start menu and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand "Human Interface Devices":
    • Look for I2C HID Device.
    • If it’s missing, go to View > Show hidden devices.
  3. Uninstall Existing Drivers:
    • Right-click the I2C HID Device and choose Uninstall device.
    • Check the box Delete the driver software for this device if prompted.
  4. Reinstall the Driver:
    • Visit the official HP Drivers and Software page for your laptop model: HP Support - Software & Driver Downloads
    • Download and install the latest ELAN Touchpad Drivers (or Synaptics if applicable).
    • If it fails, extract the downloaded driver file manually and:
      • In Device Manager, select Update driver for I2C HID Device.
      • Choose Browse my computer for drivers and point to the extracted folder.

3. Reset BIOS to Default

If a BIOS update didn't work, reset the BIOS to ensure the touchpad hardware is detected correctly:

  1. Shut down the laptop.
  2. Press the Power button and immediately press Esc repeatedly to access the Startup Menu.
  3. Press F10 to enter the BIOS setup.
  4. Look for the option to Reset to Default Settings or Load Setup Defaults.
  5. Save and Exit.

4. Test in Safe Mode

  • Boot your laptop into Safe Mode to rule out third-party software interference:
    1. Go to Settings > System > Recovery.
    2. Under Advanced Startup, click Restart now.
    3. Choose Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
    4. Select Enable Safe Mode.
  • Check if the touchpad works in Safe Mode. If it does, a third-party application or driver is causing the issue.

5. Run HP UEFI Hardware Diagnostics  HP PCs - Testing for hardware failures

  1. Restart your laptop and press Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu appears.
  2. Press F2 to enter System Diagnostics.
  3. Run the Component Tests > Touchpad Test to verify hardware functionality.

6. Use a System Restore Point

If the issue started recently, restoring your system to a previous state might help:

  1. Go to Settings > System > Recovery.
  2. Under Advanced Startup, choose System Restore and follow the prompts.

7. Ensure Windows Is Updated: Sometimes Microsoft provides compatible drivers via Windows Update.

  • If none of these steps work, the touchpad hardware itself could be faulty. Visit an authorized service center for inspection.
