All in One V8N99AA#ABA
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Recently experienced HD failure on my HP All-in-one (V8N99AA#ABA). After replacing the failed HD with a new one. I am having problems reinstalling the OS. I've downloaded the Windows 10 64 bit installer from Windows which is what I had prior to the crash. Each time I try and boot up I get an error message "A required device isn't connected or cant be accessed." Error Code: 0xc000000f", the the machine shuts down. Any thoughts at  all are appreciated.....

You're very welcome.

Unfortunately sometimes that happens, and I do not have any ideas how to get the recovery media to work if it fails.

The good news is you have another alternative to install W10.

Make a bootable USB installation flash drive using the media creation tool from the link below.

Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)

Boot from the installation media.

Since there is probably a lot of drive space taken up by the failed recovery drive W10 installation, when you get to the part of the installation that asks 'Where do you want to install Windows,' delete every partition on the hard drive, leaving just one partition of unallocated space.

Click next, and W10 should install.

After the installation is complete, you can install the drivers and available software from your PC's support page.

Hi:

Your PC appears to be supported by the HP cloud recovery tool.

With another Windows PC running W7 64 bit or newer, use the HP cloud recovery tool to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall W10, the drivers and the software that originally came with your notebook.

Here is an info link for how to use that utility...

HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool (Windows 10, 7) | HP® Customer Support

When you are trying to boot from the USB flash drive, see if this works.

Have the flash drive in the USB port.  Turn on or restart the PC.

Immediately press/tap the ESC key to get the menu of options.

Select the F9 boot options menu, and from that select the USB flash drive with W10 on it and press the Enter key.

The PC should boot from the flash drive, and the W10 installation files should begin to load.

Paul,

I did follow your instructions to the T this morning using the download from the HP Cloud Recovery. For a brief period everything appeared to be going GREAT. The installation went through a lengthy process on screen and it seemed as if all was well when suddenly I received a message on the screen "incorrect brand name expected brand name from fb" From that point I could not proceed any further. I'm assuming that this may have happened because of the brand new HD not being recognized by the HP software but only being a novice at this, I'm not certain. If you have any other suggestions please feel free to let me know. I'm currently reformatting the new HD and thinking of attempting the process once again.  Thanks again for all your help.
