HP no longer sells recovery media for your PC and it was never supported by the HP cloud recovery tool.

You can reinstall W10 for free using another Windows PC by making a bootable USB installation flash drive with the Microsoft media creation tool at the link below.

Make the 64-bit installation media.

Download Windows 10

When you get to the part of the installation that asks what version of W10 you want to install, select the version you were running on the PC when you upgraded it from W8>W10.

Then you will be asked to enter a product key.

Select the 'I don't have a product key' option and W10 will install and then activate after you are connected to the internet.

Thank You, I will do that - I am able to recover all files on the hard drive?

HP Recommended

You're very welcome.

If you want to recover files, when you get to the screen that asks 'Where do you want to install Windows,' install it over the existing windows partition on the drive and it will create a Windows.old folder.

After Windows has completed installing, you can explore the Windows.old folder, find your old user profile and copy the folders in your old user profile to the new one and you should be all set.

You can also copy them to a portable hard drive for safekeeping.

I have another question, please

If I install Win 10 on New HDD and install the old HP HDD drive as secondary will it work?

HP Recommended

Yes, you can do that and use the old drive for storage only.

Thank you,

With the crashed SATA HD I was unable to reinstall Win 10 with USB boot drive. It keeps going round and round on the screen. Boot is set from USB.

With a new SATA HD I was successful in installing clean copy of Win 10 and it is activated with my Microsoft account - All good thanks.

How when I try using the crashed HD with USB adapter or internally installed the computer goes blank, I believe it still has old operating system on it. It does not open.

However the good part is that the computer works good with a clean install of operating system - thanks.

Any suggestion where I can get help in recovery of files securely would be good.

Happy New Year,

You're very welcome.

It sounds to me like the HDD is so bad that you won't be able to use it or recover any files from it.

Happy New Year to you too!
