HP Pavilion Desktop PC TP01-2000a (2Z6C9AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I am suddenly unable to log into my Pavillion Desktop. When entering my password, I ger the following message: "This sign-in option is disabled because of failed sign-in attempts or repeated shutdowns. Use a different sign-in option, or keep your device powered on for at least two hours and then try again."

I have kept the device powered up from two hour periods to overnight with no change. in addition, I was logged out initially after the first lojon attempt.

Please advise your suggestions

Hi @DonO17,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

If you're encountering the message that your HP Pavilion Desktop PC TP01-2000a sign-in option is disabled due to failed attempts or repeated shutdowns, and you’ve already tried keeping the device powered on for extended periods with no success, here are several steps you can take to resolve the issue:

1. Try Alternative Sign-In Options

Use a Different Sign-In Method:

  • If you have other sign-in options enabled (such as a PIN or password), try those.
  • On the sign-in screen, look for alternative options like "Sign-in options" to switch between password, PIN, or biometric authentication.

Use Another User Account:

  • If there are other user accounts on the PC, try logging in with one of them.

2. Check for Network Connection

  1. Ensure Network Connectivity:
    • If your device uses an online account (like a Microsoft account), make sure it is connected to the internet.
    • If you’re using a local account, network connectivity may not be as crucial, but it’s still worth verifying.

3. Perform a Hard Reboot

  1. Hard Reboot:
    • Power off the computer completely by holding down the power button for 10-15 seconds.
    • Unplug the power cord from the desktop.
    • Wait for about 60 seconds.
    • Plug the power cord back in and start the computer.

4. Boot into Safe Mode

Access Safe Mode:

  • Restart the computer and repeatedly press F8 or Shift + F8 before Windows starts to load. If this doesn’t work, try F11 or Esc for advanced boot options.
  • Select Safe Mode from the list of options.

Troubleshoot from Safe Mode:

  • In Safe Mode, you can try to log in with your regular account or use another account.
  • Check for and uninstall recent updates or software that might be causing issues.

Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
