My start screen is showing "Undoing changes made to your computer" from long time. I left it as it is for more than 6 hours (nothing happened). I tried trouble shooting from Advance options (nothing happened). I tried entering into safe mode from advance options as well as command prompt (can't enter). tried uninstalling all the updates from advance options (nothing happened) .

Stucked with this Undoing changes screen please help.

The "Undoing changes made to your computer" message typically appears when a Windows update fails to install correctly, and the system is trying to revert the changes. If this process gets stuck, it can be quite frustrating. Here are some steps you can take to try and resolve this issue:

1. Force Restart Your Computer

Sometimes, a simple restart can help. Hold down the power button until your computer shuts off, wait a few seconds, and then turn it back on. However, since you've already waited for a long time and tried restarting, you might need more advanced steps.

2. Access Advanced Startup Options

Since you've already tried some advanced options, you may need to attempt these again or try additional steps:

  1. Turn off your computer.
  2. Turn it back on and repeatedly press F8, F11, ESC, or the appropriate key for your model to access the Advanced Startup Options. If this doesn't work, turn the computer off and back on three times to trigger the automatic recovery environment.

3. Try System Restore

If possible, attempt a System Restore from the Advanced Startup Options:

  1. Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > System Restore.
  2. Choose a restore point before the problem occurred and follow the prompts.

4. Run Startup Repair

  1. Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Repair.
  2. This tool can automatically fix problems preventing Windows from starting.

5. Uninstall Updates

You mentioned trying to uninstall updates; you can try again if it didn't work before:

  1. Go to Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Uninstall Updates.
  2. Try uninstalling the latest quality or feature update.

6. Boot into Safe Mode

If you haven't been able to get into Safe Mode, try again by holding down the Shift key while clicking Restart from the login screen:

  1. Choose Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings.
  2. Select Restart, then press F4 to boot into Safe Mode.

7. Check Disk for Errors

If you can access the Command Prompt from the Advanced options:

  1. Type chkdsk /f /r C: and press Enter. This command will check for and attempt to repair disk errors.

8. Rebuild BCD (Boot Configuration Data)

  1. In the Command Prompt, type the following commands:
    • bootrec /fixmbr
    • bootrec /fixboot
    • bootrec /rebuildbcd
  2. Restart your computer.

9. Reset Your PC

As a last resort, you can try resetting your PC, which may preserve your files but will remove installed apps and settings:

  1. Go to Troubleshoot > Reset this PC.
  2. Choose either Keep my files or Remove everything.

10. Reinstall Windows

If none of the above steps work, you may need to reinstall Windows. This will erase all data, so ensure you have backups of important files. You can use a Windows installation media (USB or DVD) to reinstall the operating system.
