Microsoft Windows 11

My HP All-in-One desktop PC suddenly installed an unexpected BIOS update. No prompt, no notice. It just froze and wouldn't shut down so I had to power it off. When I powered it back up the HP BIOS install came up. After the install completed I ran a virus scan using Norton but it didn't detect anything. Should I be concerned?

Many BIOS updates are now being pushed by the PC manufacturers to Windows update, and they are installed that way.

I am not particularly fond of that because you are right...you have no clue its coming, or if you see the update, it has a generic description like 'HP Firmware.'

I would not be concerned as long as your PC is working OK.

Another thing you will probably discover is the BIOS update that got installed isn't even on your PC's driver page as HP probably hasn't uploaded it to the support page yet.

I have generally found around a 1 - 2-week delay from the time Windows update installed the BIOS update and when HP uploads it to the support page.
