What USB devices are connected to your computer? Keyboard? Mouse? Webcam? Printer? Memory-stick? Scanner? iPhone/iPad charging cable? Digital camera?

Do each of those devices work, when connected to a DIFFERENT computer?

The devices plugged into the usb are Keyboard, Mouse, Printer and Scanner and they all work. The problem is when I plug something new in. It does not matter what I plug in, I get the same messages. It just won't accept anything new no matter what port I use.

Your motherboard can only supply a limited amount of power to all your devices.

Experiment: disconnect the printer & the scanner, and then connect that "something new" device, to see if it will work.

I plugged a storage thumb drive into the USB. I can open the files on it but I still get the error message "Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)". I am trying to plug a Bluetooth dongle but it will not recognize it.

I guess no one knows the answer to this problem.

Normally, that implies that Windows has read the "descriptor" information from the device, and used that information to load the correct device-driver.

  • click with the right-side mouse-button on the Windows 10 "start" button
  • click on "Device Manager"
  • expand that "USB" branch of the "tree"
  • is your "storage thumb drive" listed as a correctly-installed device?

Is that dongle correctly installed, when you connect it to a different computer?

Yes, it's installed correctly. Yes, it works on other computers.
