When trying to update from Windows 7 to Windows 10, with error code 1x80070490.  But I'm not sure I'm even using the correct program to upgrade.  Can you give me any guidance?

Thanks, Uncle Dewey

@UncleDewey

That error code means basically that Windows Update has become corrupted -- and continuing to try to use that is wasting your time.

Here is a link to a troubleshooter that MIGHT be able to reset Windows Update for you:  https://pureinfotech.com/reset-windows-update-windows-10-fix-downloads-installs/

If that does not work, then your other recourse is to do the following:

1) Us this link to download and create Win10 install media: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
2) insert that into your PC (do NOT boot from it), find the folder containing the media, select the setup.exe file, right-click that and select Run as Administrator.

This will start an in-place Upgrade which could then take a couple of hours to complete.

I eventually gave up, bought a new HP computer, and am slowly bringing every thing back.

Thanks a mil for all of your help.  Uncle Dewey
