Okay here I go. I recently had my computer repaired at Best Buy. So I noticed that in my HP support assistant it lists 2 laptops instead of of just one. This due to the fact that that they put in a new mother board ( I think) and that had a different serial number than the original one. I have called and I have asked and no one seems to be able to give me a good satisfactory answer.
Here is my question, can I delete the laptop with the old serial number without having issues with the updates that come through my HP assistance or any other issues?

Hi @Brownie45,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Yes, you should be able to safely remove the entry for the old laptop with the previous serial number from your HP Support Assistant without causing any issues with updates or other functionalities. The HP Support Assistant typically keeps track of hardware and software configurations to provide support and updates tailored to your device.
Here's a general guideline on how to proceed.
- Open HP Support Assistant: Launch the HP Support Assistant software on your computer.
- Identify the Old Entry: Locate the entry for the old laptop with the previous serial number within the HP Support Assistant interface.
- Remove the Entry: Look for an option within the HP Support Assistant interface to remove or delete the outdated entry. This might be labeled as "Remove Device" or something similar. Click on this option.
- Confirmation: You may receive a confirmation prompt asking if you're sure you want to remove the device. Confirm the action.
- Verify Remaining Entry: Ensure that the entry for your current laptop with the correct serial number is still listed in the HP Support Assistant.
By removing the outdated entry, you're simply decluttering the records in your HP Support Assistant to reflect your current hardware configuration accurately. This shouldn't affect the functionality or updates provided by the software, as it will continue to recognize and support your current device with the correct serial number.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
