Welcome to our HP community forum!
Losing sound after upgrading from Windows 8 to Windows 10 can happen due to driver compatibility issues. Here are some steps you can try to restore sound on your HP Pavilion 500:
1. Update Audio Drivers
- Manually through Device Manager:
- Right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager.
- Expand Sound, video, and game controllers.
- Right-click on your audio device (likely Realtek High Definition Audio) and choose Update driver.
- Select Search automatically for drivers.
- Download from HP's Website:
- Visit HP's official support site.
- Enter your exact product model and select Drivers & Software.
- Look for Windows 10-compatible audio drivers and install them.
2. Use Windows Troubleshooter
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
- Select Playing Audio and run the troubleshooter to let Windows diagnose and fix any sound issues.
3. Roll Back Driver
- In Device Manager, right-click your audio device.
- Select Properties > Driver tab.
- Click on Roll Back Driver (if the option is available).
4. Check Audio Services
- Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
- Scroll down and find Windows Audio.
- Make sure the service is running (click Start if it isn’t) and set it to Automatic.
5. Reinstall Audio Device
- In Device Manager, right-click your audio device and select Uninstall device.
- Restart your computer. Windows should automatically reinstall the audio drivers.
6. Set the Correct Audio Device
- Right-click the sound icon in the taskbar and choose Open Sound settings.
- Under Output, make sure the correct audio device (e.g., speakers or headphones) is selected.
If none of these steps work, there could be hardware compatibility issues between your system's components and Windows 10, or further troubleshooting might be needed. Let me know how it goes!

Hi, @xyz144
If your PC came with the IDT audio chip, installing this W10 IDT audio driver from a newer model PC should get the sound to work on yours.
Tempo High-Definition Audio Driver (Original IDT)
6.10.6504.0

Restart the PC after installing the driver.
