Upgrade to 64-bit OS

I have an older HP Pavilion A6200N PC.  (Model: GN556AA-A6200N  Serial: [Personal Information Removed])  It has an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5000+ processor installed.  It is currently running 32-bit Win 7 Pro OS.  When I view the System Information, it does not say "32-bit OS running on a 64-bit processor"  which is an indication that it can be upgraded. 

Can this PC be upgraded to 64-bit Win 7 Pro OS?

Hi:

Yes, you can install a 64 bit operating system on the PC, but you can't 'upgrade' it.

You would need to do a clean install of W7 Pro 64 bit, and then reinstall the drivers and programs you need.

You would also need to have W7 Pro 64 bit installation media, and a W7 Pro product key to activate the installation.

Thanks Paul.  Apologies for the incorrect use of 'upgrade'.

A clean install will not be a problem.  I already have the W7Pro 64-bit installation media and an 'unused' product key.

Now if I can just get the HP Support website to cough up the 64-bit drivers.  Right now all I get is a spinning search icon when I entered my PC's serial number.

Unfortunately, HP retired support for your PC since it is more than 10 years old.

I looked up the specs for your PC, and if you haven't made any modifications to it, here are the links to the Chipset, Graphics, Audio and ethernet drivers you need.

Chipset...also installs the ethernet driver.

Graphics:

NVIDIA DRIVERS GeForce 309.08 Driver WHQL

Audio:  Accept the agreement.  Download and install the 64 bit audio driver.
