I purchased my new desktop 2/7/20. The company is showing this Warranty date of 12/4/19. Can they do that. I was under
the impression the initial date of Warranty when the product is sold. It is supposed to be new/unused.
What are facts in this instance?

Retailers may register machines when they have the machines. I always register my machines when opening the boxes.

The default is that the initial date of the warranty is when the machine is BUILT, not when it is sold.
It can sit on a shelf in a store or in a warehouse for MONTHS.
When you turn it on and then register it with HP, that is when you can reset the warranty start date.
