I'm clueless when it comes to computers.  Currently I have an HP Pavilion 595-P0074.  I believe I am running Windows 10 (but then again have no clue where to look for this).  The C drive total size is 118GB with 1.99GB free.  The D drive is 914GB with 870GB free.  I have pretty much run out of C drive space.  I had thought that possibly I could have some space from the D drive moved to the C drive however I have been told that this is not possible since these are HP factory settings.  I had started moving some of my tax programs to an external drive and then was advised by my  software provider that their preference is that all program installations go on the C drive so I am shopping for a new computer.  I am currently looking at an HP Pavilion Desktop Ryzen 7 5700G Processor, 64GB RAM, 2TB SSD + 8 TB HDD, Windows 11 Pro.  How do I equate the C & D drive space of 118GB + 914GB to this new computer (i.e. C & D drive space) to make sure I have enough space for program installation?

hi

I don't quite understand what you want to do
you are talking about this computer
which has two different disks, a 1 tb sata HDD
and a 128 gb M2 ssd drive
the only solution here is to place as much data as possible on the HDD Disk

How to Change the Default Save Location in Windows 11

or replace the 128 ssd

Now you are talking about another computer, if it has 2TB SSD + 8 TB HDD, I don't see what your problem is
there is plenty of space available

I'm thinking that you DID NOT read my question close enough ... my question WAS What do I need to look for in a NEW COMPUTER?  Based upon the information provided I stated that memory (I guess that is what it is) was a certain number of GB's on the hard drive.  Obviously I have run out of room on this computer and have been advised that there is NO way to re-partition or move space from the D drive to the C drive .. so I am looking at NEW COMPUTERS and I want one with more space on the C drive than 118GB's ... I wondered what does the 118GB's equate to when I am reading the specifications of a new computer ... is that what is referred to as RAM or Memory or what is it?  That's all I wanted to know.

no sorry, that's not exactly what you said, for me..
If the available space for your system is insufficient, you could simply buy a larger m2 ssd, if everything else is ok!
see in detail for the model you have indicated

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05999912

Memory

12 GB

  • Amount: 12 GB
  • Speed: PC4-21300 MB/s
  • Type: DDR4-2666

this is not a usable storage space

https://www.crucial.com/articles/about-memory/support-what-does-computer-memory-do

Hard drives

128 GB PCIe NVMe M.2 Solid State Drive

  • Size: 128 GB
  • Interface: M.2
  • Type: Solid State

this is for storage, it's an m2 ssd disk, faster than a classic hdd disk

1 TB

  • Size: 1 TB
  • Interface: SATA
  • Rotational Speed: 7200 RPM

this is the second disc, mechanical, slower!
in the case of a configuration with two readers
the ssd disk, it will be used, for the system (Windows) and the programs!
the second HDD disk, it will have to be used for data, but it is generally not used automatically, the user will have to place what he wants on it, music images, videos etc.
this can be changed using the trick given in link, so if one can move data from the smaller drive to the larger one

when you buy a computer, look for example for this model

https://www.hp.com/us-en/shop/pdp/hp-pavilion-desktop-tp01-2165z-bundle-pc

Memory

16 GB DDR4-3200 MHz RAM (2 x 8 GB)

choose at least 16gb of ram memory

here you have the fast, but still small SSD drive

Storage

256 GB PCIe® NVMe™ SSD

and a second HDD disk

Secondary storage

2 TB 7200 rpm SATA HDD

this is where you have to look for the space available for your programs and data
