Thank you for the additional information, @Patty1117. This is exactly the type of information that I needed!
I just bought a new HP Spectre 360 Convertible for my wife. So, I know how broke one can be after buying a new computer.
Here is an enclosure that should work for you. Also, it can be used with SSD's. If you don't want this one, it will give you an idea of what you need.

@Patty1117, welcome to the forum.
I am not certain what you want. If you are going to install a 3.5" hard drive (HDD) in the computer there are bays to allow for this. If you want to install a 2.5" SSD you would need an adapter for it to fit into a 3.5" bay. What exactly are you wanting to do?

Hi, I bought a new desktop and my old, out dated security , end of life, malfunctioning desktop has been sitting around and we want to get rid of it however want to save the information ( pictures, schoolwork, home files) . I asked a friend at work who sets up our desktops if i should buy a bunch of flash drives or external hard drive. Something really cheap. I am poor after buying a new desktop and with the holidays. He said the best solution is to remove the hard drive and buy an enclosure - its cheap and I would have all my data and can get rid of the clunky cabinet. My old desktop is a HP Pavilion Elite m9040n and the hard drive is 640 GB ( interface Sata transfer rating 3.0 gb rotational speed 7200 rpm. ( whatever that means) there are tons of enclosures at best buy website and not sure what to get.
