HP Desktop PC M01-F0000a (2W899AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I purchased a new HP PC.

My other one is currently disabled because of a failed BIOS update.

Trying to update the BIOS earlier last year resulted in the same thing and I needed to buy a new motherboard.

On my new PC there is a update:

HP inc.-Firmware-15.20.0.0

Is this item a BIOS update?? If it is I'm going to try not to install it.

Can anyone assure me that this item won't disable my new PC.

James

Hi @JamesJ1

Welcome back.

I would not do any HP firmware updates offered by Windows Update.

You can stop HP firmware updates offered by Windows as follows:

Enter Advanced System Settings in Search. Select the Hardware tab.

Select Device Installation Settings. Select No. Save changes.

Select Apply then OK.

Your other PC might be recoverable if a newer HP BIOS update is available for this PC that can be used to create  a USB BIOS recovery drive on a different PC. This BIOS update would have to have been created by HP in late 2022 through 2023.

You can flash the corrupted BIOS if the HP BIOS update supports this option.

I would need the older PC's product number to check this.

I followed your instructions and turned off the automatic download.

But the item is still listed in Windows update.

Hi @JamesJ1

Give it time. Restart the PC.

It should go away.

Don't install the update if it is optional. You may have no choice if this update is not optional.

It is not optional.

It's listed with all other pending updates.

Shut the pc down last night.

When I checked windows update the firmware was not listed.
