HP OmniDesk Desktop PC M02-0000a (A9RU1AV)

I'm a first time HP owner. Just about every other time I'm on my computer there an update to install before I shut it down. Is this normal? Many times there's been BIOS updates. It's pretty aggravating, but if it's for the computers protection I'm ok with it. What I want to know is 1. Is this normal.? 2. Is there anyway to know what's getting updated? 3. Can a bad actor infect my computer somehow and I install their virus that way?

Thanks for any help.

Also, it took me many times to make it here to ask this question because I kept getting blocked. It said something to the effect of the action I made seemed like an attack , or something of that nature. All I did is picked a topic from the drop down menu. Anyone have any ideas why that happened?

Thanks again.

Microsoft's routine monthly security/quality update release is usually scheduled for the second Tuesday of every month ("Patch Tuesday"). Windows will download the update automatically in the background and then prompt you to do an Update and shutdown or Update and restart from the power button in the Start menu. You need to select those "update and restart" option for windows to get it updated. If you do manuall shutdown, then it may not installed and stay there. As for that, Hp community discussion security issue, its likely a false positive by community anti-spam/anti-attack protection. There could be several reasons behind this, such as a VPN or proxy server, ad-blocking extensions or plugins, repetitive access within a short period of time, or the IP address may be blacklisted by the security system falsely. So try Turning off any VPN or proxy temporarily, Temporarily disable extensions for HP Community and you can also try different device like android. If issue remains, then I suggest you to create new post on this specific topic in this community and ask for help. As I don't know much about this topic and others will likely able to help.

Newly configured PCs may have a stack of updates, including Windows security and quality updates, feature updates, Microsoft Defender definition updates, and device-driver updates. That's why frequent updates in the first days and weeks is quite common and ensures that the system is safe and stable.

Use Windows Update to install regular updates and avoid third-party "driver updater" tools as Windows Update can take care of the vast majority of Microsoft, security and even driver updates. In case of HP-specific updates (in particular BIOS or firmware), use you can use HP Support Assistant or HP official support website for your PC model.

Updates you'll see most often include:

  1. Windows security and quality updates: Released on Patch Tuesday, the second Tuesday of the month, sometimes out-of-band updates are possible.
  2. Microsoft Defender security intelligence updates: Daily (sometimes several times a day) updates are possible since antivirus definitions must be up-to-date.

Driver updates: Occasionally you may notice updates for such components as Wi‑Fi, graphics, audio, Bluetooth, touchpads. HP BIOS/firmware updates: Less frequent. In case the update is installing, plug the AC adapter and don't power off or reboot the PC till the process completes.

You can also Check what has been installed in Settings > Windows Update > Update history.

I understand that, but this isn't a new computer. Where I see the updates in when I click the start tab and then the power button to shut the computer down.

You're saying that an update is sent out every second Tuesday of the month? That could possibly be what I'm seeing.

Can you also tell me why I keep getting blocked when I try to make a discussion? It says "This website is using a security service to protect itself from online attacks. The action you just performed triggered the security solution..." All I did is choose a topic from the drop down menu. I have to use a work-around just to post here.
