I saw somewhere that i might need to update my bios to make my new 1060 thats coming tomorrow work.
I have a h8-1150uk HP board. There is a newer bios than 7.12 which is 7.1 Rev .A but the downloader that gives me the bios update file doesnt allow me to create a USB (It has no support for windows 10 only windows 7 so USB is only option).
It says on the webise that It should give me an option to create a USB but it goes straight to asking me to flash the bios.
Has anyone had this problem crating a BIOS USB with hp? Or do you know if my 1060 will work on the 7.12 version?

Should I keep trying to update the bios? I have a version from 2011, but there is another from 2012,
but its called Rev. A
so does that mean its the same one?
Yes, it means that the graphics adapter is not supported by your UEFI BIOS.
Previously, I noted that HP always specifies "Rev. A" for the first release of a new level of a BIOS.
So, you already have the most-recent level of the BIOS for your motherboard.

1. Where did you see that information? What is its URL?
I am not a fan of "updating BIOS", except when I have researched an update, and have found that what it changes is important to me. In your case, I would rather install the 1060, and see if the computer works.
2. There is no "7.12" file that exists without a "Revision" suffix.
HP always calls the first version of a new level, namely "7.12", as being "Rev. A".
HP would call the second version of a new level as being "Rev. B".
From: IPISB-CH2 Motherboard BIOS Update
Type: BIOS
Version: 7.12 Rev. A
Operating Systems: Windows 7 (64-bit)
Release date: Feb 6, 2012
File name: sp56123.exe (3.0 MB)
From: TITLE: IPISB-CH2 Motherboard BIOS Update
VERSION: 7.12 Rev. A
DESCRIPTION: This package provides an update to the IPISB-CH2 Motherboard BIOS for the supported desktop models and supported operating systems.
PURPOSE: Critical
SOFTPAQ NUMBER: SP56123
SUPERSEDES: None
CATEGORY: BIOS
ENHANCEMENTS: Updates Intel processor microcode.
3. If you launch the downloaded program, it will save a copy of the current BIOS, for "disaster recovery" purposes.
4. BIOS updates are independent of the operating system (Linux? FreeDOS? Windows?)
The above BIOS update was released THREE YEARS before Windows 10 was released.
So, it is not surprising that it makes no mention of Windows 10.
5. If necessary, use the "Compatibility Wizard" in Windows 10 to create a "virtual" Windows 7 environment for the updater.
6. No personal experience.
7. Either the 1060 will work on your current computer, or it will not.
If it will not, apply the 7.12-Rev-A update, to see if "updates Intel processor microcode" adds anything relevant to your situation.

Thanks so much for the reply,
Thats good news then that 7.12 is the newest version. Whether the 1080 works I guess I will have to wait until tomorrow to find out.
I should have checked the BIOS update before I updated to windows 10. Thats a great tip about using compatibility mode.
Sounds like I do have the right BIOS then, just a matter of if the board will run it. Really hope it will works tomorrow as my board is a very odd size and will be hard to replace.

Greetings,
Welcome to the forum.
I am not an HP employee.
The chances of any new Nvidia 1000 series graphics cards (this also includes new AMD graphics products) working with your motherboard's BIOS is almost nonexistent. Nvidia, pretty much, only supported UEFI starting with the 700 series graphics cards.
The newer graphics cards require a UEFI BIOS.
Your PC was introduced by HP in 2011. Your PC does not have a UEFI BIOS and cannot be updated to a UEFI BIOS.
HP did not introduce UEFI until late 2012 or early 2013. UEFI BIOS versions start with 8.xx.
Sorry, but the 1060 is not going to initialize.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I think mine is one of the newer ones with a UEFI BIOS. Does that mean it will work? I am also an idiot and I need to get a new PSU before it works. All this time worrying about the BIOS And I dont have a 6-pin. You think it will work with teh UEFI Bios then? AS new psu and mobo addds up money wise.

Hi,
You're very welcome.
As the dean stated, the 1060 may or may not work. You will need to upgrade the PSU if the HP PSU has no six/eight pin supplemental PCIe connector.
The 1060 should work if your PC has a UEFI BIOS.
Enter the BIOS and check settings in the Security menu. What do you see?
Please check out this HP Support document on Desktop Secure Boot Settings (link).

Update.. So i noticed today a 6pin hiding up in my computer. lol
Plugged it in and got stuck on the HP screen. Does this mean its not compatible? Should I keep trying to update the bios? I have a version from 2011, but there is another from 2012, but its called Rev .A so does that mean its the same one?

Hi
Did you connect the eight pin PSU connector to the 1060 if you have it on the HP PSU? You will need to upgrade the PSU if it does not have this connector to see if this is the problem.
There are no BIOS updates for your motherboard. Or if there is a BIOS update then try it.
Did you verify your PC has a UEFI BIOS?

Hi Will,
It says UEFI in my system but Im a little confused by the bios. It doesnt actually say bios anywhere. I even turned off fast boot. Its like a HP version im not familiar with.
MY 1060 seems to only have a 6pin connector.
So I think I need a new mobo. That somehow fits the wierd size choice of Hp. lol
