How can I tell if our HP z420 Workstations came with a Win10 license and Win7 pre-installed/downgraded? I need to prepare for replacement or migration...

Hi:
Run this free utility I zipped up and attached below, which will show you what version of Windows the product key in the BIOS is good for.
I'm thinking it is W8.1 Pro because according to the z420 quickspecs at the link below, I do not see W10 listed as an offered operating system...see page 3.

After reviewing the Spec Sheet at
https://support.hp.com/ca-en/product/hp-z420-workstation/5225033/model/5234137/document/c03277050#Ab...
I thought it was a longshot. It would seem other manufacturers (Lenovo, and Dell many years ago) allow you to look up a factory config and print a spec sheet or how it was originally configged when shipped. I thought i was missing something on the HP support site.
FYI the tool you provided has a more recent version.
Thank you!

You're very welcome.
The only thing HP has is if you enter the product number in the box at the link below to see what info there is available.

Normally it is too general to be of any use but sometimes you get lucky.
The product number can be found on the same label as the serial number.
