Good advice thanks once again.
The reason I am a little wary of installing a PCI graphics card is that this machine is an ex - business desktop with a 240W power supply (again SFF PSU) making the Small Form Factor PC limited in power output.
What is more interesting is that Intel are not wanting to provide support for the Intel(R) HD 2000 graphics chip post Win 8.1 which could in effect limit the options businesses having the SFF version of the HP Elite 8200 to future operating system upgrades and support from Microsoft. I will endeavor to purchase an ATI graphics card (described in the optional components of the SFF tech reference guide).
Also supported graphics cards are only 512MB, may not be directX 11 compatible and performance benefits in some cases relating to graphics usage could be minimal (although the benefits of Windows 10 support over Windows 7 is a plus point).

You're very welcome.
This is the card I recommend you get. You can read the reviews and folks have installed this card on PC's with power supplies in that range. I see one guy put it in a PC with a 180 W P/S
You can also run this handy power supply calculator to see that the card will work within the confines of the 240W P/S.

Comes with the low profile brackets.
If you are concerned about no fan in the small case, then you can get a GT 610 with a fan which is about in the same power range...

Just an update. I am keeping Windows 7. The graphics card works very well and has freed up memory. I have tried multiple times to install windows 10 from DVD using the media creation tool and from Windows Update and after a long and lengthy update process with little output from the update utility I keep getting the following:-
"We couldn't install Windows 10 - We've set your PC back to the way it was just before you started installing Windows 10
0xC1900101 - 0x40017
The installation failed in the SECOND_BOOT phase with an error during boot operation"
As I have many programs I want to keep on my PC I do not want to try a clean boot.
Thanks for helping... I feel I will keep windows 7 for now and try an update some time in the future!

Hi just an update.
Windows 10 is now installed on this machine!
I decided to re-install Win7 Home (after backing up op sys and data) from new on a machine with all add on hardware disconnected including internal card driver (replaced with 250GB spare hard drive for back up purposes).
I suspect the card reader was an issue with earlier installations and a hardware add-on which I should have removed before earlier installations.
ATI catalyst intially gave BSODs but these stopped after uninstallation of windows own driver and an update from the AMD site. A few minor problems with mouse and screen orientation which disappeared after the most recent Microsoft update. I still feel that Intel HD Graphics 2000 contributed to earlier memory BSODs but am more than happy with the extra RAM freed up by my new 1GB ATI graphics card and its performance to revert back to the original graphics configuration.
Once again thanks for the helpful suggestions and I am pleased to report that all is now well with my PC.

I recently upgraded (via microsoft download) Win10 x64 on my Elite 8200 SFF. It came with Windows 7 x64 and was working perfectly fine.
After the upgrade, my pc will not Shutdown... at all! I have to hold the power button and it will shutdown. It will rarely reboot with same issue. Also, Internet goes in and out (on a USB wifi and not cable). I have performed all windows updates and even updated the drivers (Chipset, BIOS and wifilan). I have not tried the video yet. Any ideas or similar issues from others out there?

Hi, on upgrading my HP 8200 elite SFF I received numerous error codes relating to memory issues which stopped immediately post video graphics card update. I am wondering if you have received any error codes similar to these? If not then it may not be cost effective to do the upgrade as one of your updates could already have solved that problem. A secondary thought would be to look at the advanced power option settings in windows 10 under power button actions to ensure it is set to shut down and not to do nothing (sorry to suggest this if you have already looked).
