I had W10 pro installed with the free version. It has worked well for the most part. Now I am having a number of issues now and my 83 year old technical knowledge is obsolete. The W10 procedure for analyzing and defrag just does not work for me! The recovery points I had created periodically, just disappeared; I can't even find where the backup files were stored. I would like to find an app that will detect problems and correct them. Can you suggest a good one along with a good virus and malware protection app? Days of frustration is just too much to handle during this crazy Covid-19 isolation. During research of problems from others indicate I am not alone with the W10 challenges. I ordered the PC from HPQ and had updates made to it by them. I also checked with the HPQ community to see if I could upgrade the PC and was told it would be fine and I used a link provided to me and did the upgrade. Can anyone provide suggestions?

I don't understand what you mean when you say you had W10 installed. Did the PC come with Win10 preloaded? Or did you have someone install W10 on it?
Here is information on running defrag: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/8933-optimize-defrag-drives-windows-10-a.html
When you say "recovery points", do you mean Restore Points? Because if you do, those are all but useless. They are not capable of returning the PC to a previous date, despite the misinformation on the Internet about them.
In terms of detecting problems -- what kind of problems? There are no apps that can fix hardware problems, despite what you might read about them. The best app I have used for analyzing Windows and repairing it is Windows Repair -- and the free version is available from here: https://www.tweaking.com/content/page/windows_repair_all_in_one.html
The antivirus app I use is MalwareBytes Anti Malware (MBAM) and you can get it from here: Malwarebytes download
