HP 700QE
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

While idle a few evenings ago, apparently my desktop automatially updated to Windows 10 which has been a challenge ever since.  I have finally gotten everything resolved with the exception of having no sound.  I have sought out every fix imaginable on the internet and still not resolved.  Updated drivers, uninstalled, reinstalled, and I am still at a loss.  I still have the infamous  red "X" on the speaker and have no sound.  After trying "everything" I can find related to this issue, the last error message I have recieved is:  "Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device."

Any suggestions of where I best turn to now to resolve would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

Hi:

If your PC has the IDT HD audio, see if installing this W10 driver resolves the problem.  Install and restart the PC.

This package provides the IDT Tempo High Definition Audio Driver for supported desktop models that are running a supported operating system.

File name: sp71717.exe

@GBSK

Here is the HP divers and software page for your PC:  http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-ENVY-700-Desktop-PC-series/6886619/model/6988376

If this page does not show Windows 10 when you open it, then click Change and select Windows 10.

Try downloading the Audio drivers from this page and seeing if they work.

If that does not work, then here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:  http://hp.dezide.com/ts/start.jsp?guide=soundweb.net&section=ccweb&sfs=tdoc

Good Luck

Hi Dean,

Many thanks for your time and input.  I had two replies and tried the other first and it solved the issue.  I will be hanging on to your solution as well in the event I have an issue again in the future.  Again, very much appreciate your time and recommendations!
