Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

After installing Gentoo Linux alongside Windows 10 in UEFI, My Windows 10 recovery partition gives me an error message "You need to format your drive before using it". Everytime I fire up windows 10, in the boot screen it "scanned and repaired" the disk in a few seconds. I have not touched any of the Windows partitions when running the "cfdisk" command". I also have no technical knowledge of how to create a Windows recovery partition. I also checked for bad sectors on my HDD but bad sectors do not seem to be the issue. The only system partition I touched was the EFI partition to install rEFInd. I also wonder if I download the Windows 10 ISO in the case Windows 10 would give me the game over screen, if I would have to purchase a new product key.

@crupnick,

It will re-install the OS, and activate the embedded Product Key. Just skip any reference to enter it.

This system is feedback driven thru Solution and Kudo flags. It's the only means of knowing if you have been served. Please click Accept as Solution, if your problem is solved. To say THANK YOU, press the "thumbs up symbol" to render a KUDO. You can render both Solution and KUDO..

Hi

Wb2001 is absolutely correct.

However when you installed gentoo "alongside" windows do/did the Windows partitions show and become accessible in Gentoo, because I feel you may have changed something on the HDD and you will just solve the W10 problem and create a Gentoo problem.

rEFInd is an excellent piece of software but an overkill for dual booting, you may have caused DUEL booting arf arf.

So is Gentoo the only choice?

Installing Gentoo works a bit differently than other Linux distributions.
But don't worry, we got you covered every step of the way.

There is no installation program—you're the installer.

That way, you can apply all the customizations you desire.

Not the most encouraging of help. WE down to YOU (within 15 words).

Some guides....

So actually because of all the individual customisations, we cannot know what has taken place in the partitioning and Boot Manager process.

If in doubt please ask.
