Hello!
I have a HP-PAVILION-500 Desktop System Model 500-205t.
The machine originally came with the following operating system: Microsoft Windows 10 Home, Version 10.0.17134 Build 17134.
Here is the BIOS information: BIOS Version/Date AMI 80.23, 7/6/2016
SMBIOS Version 2.7
Question: What is the last version of Windows 10 Home that is compatible with this PC according to HP? I have tried to get the answer to this question from the tool provided on hp.com without success. I have been using Windows 10 version 1803 without issues. However, upgrades to Windows 10 versions 1809 and 1903 fail.
Since Microsoft is removing support for Version 1803 in a few days, I am trying to find out what I need to do if Windows 10 version 1803 is indeed the last Windows version compatible with this PC.
Does this mean this PC needs to be scrapped soon? Please help!
Thanks.

Greetings Cricketlover,
Welcome to the forum.
I am not a HP employee.
This is a tough one to answer.
Do you get any update error messages when the W10 update fails? The error message may give you a hint on what is happening. Sometimes it may be possible to fix the problem, sometimes there is no fix.
Have you tried any Windows version updates using only a monitor, keyboard, and mouse connected to the PC?
Windows version updates sometimes fail when other devices are connected to the PC. Older hardware and drivers can also cause problems.
You have some options.
I would try a clean install of W10 1903 on a different HDD or SSD to see if it succeeds. You would still have version 1803 on the original drive as a safety net.
You also have the option to go back to W8.1. Microsoft will support this OS until 2023.

Hello Grzwacz,
Thanks for your detailed reply.
Following your suggestions, I tried to Upgrade after disconnecting all peripherals. The PC was connected only to the monitor, mouse, and the Internet.
I go the following error 'Windows could not configure one or more system components. To install windows restart the computer restart the intallation'
When i clicked the only option which is 'OK" to the above message, the following response showed on the screen very briefly 'Attempting to recover installation'.
The message then switched to 'Undoing changes made to your computer'.
So I am back to square one.
That's where is stands now.

Hi,
You're very welcome.
So you are back to version 1803. The "not being able to configure one or more system components" error means you have a component, or a hardware driver, or a system driver which is not playing nice with this update.
Run a check disk (Link).
It could also be a low level system problem with incompatible Anti-Virus software. Older printer drivers, or an older printer, or other older components and associated drivers (audio, graphics, or network) can cause this issue.
I don't work for HP and must rely on the product specs HP provides online. This site shows the only specs I can find for your PC (Link). This site (Link) has W10 drivers for your PC which are mostly from 2015.
The Intel H87 chipset was released for sale in Q2 2013. I would think your PC may have shipped with Windows 8.1. But HP also provides W7 driver support for your PC.
I would try a clean W10 install on a different HDD or SSD to see if it works.
Regards

Hello Grzwacz,
Thanks for your reply.
Which option should I use to run Check Disk:

Hi Grzwacz,
Thanks for your helpful replies.
The issue is finally resolved.
The culprit: Internet Information Services in Windows Feature.
It was coming in the way of installing the version 1903 update.
The version 1903 update installed without issues once I disabled the Internet Information Services feature.
Thanks a lot for your help!
