I reinstalled Windows 10 because my son downloaded something that had malware. After the reinstall windows now says needs to be activated. This pc has the key in the bios. So i installed and it was fine for the first day. Now it says needs to be activated again.

You don't need to activate UNLESS you changed something. As message says, Microsoft will activate automatically.
Regards.

How about listing the steps you did to re-install WIN 10. Entering a product key should NOT have been done.
As @banhien said, the process auto-activates with an internet access.

The message you got clearly indicates that the MS Activation Servers were down. That happens from time to time, especially if there is a sudden surge in activations that overpowers the servers.
This can happen if your Internet service has failed -- and this happens more often than folks think. A relative of mine uses Xfinity and their service goes out, unexpectedly, at least once a week!
So first, check that Internet access has been restored. Once you have done that, retry the activation -- it should simply just work. IF it still does not work, time after time, you have a different issue.
