HP Pavilion x360 14 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 14-ek1000 (742H9AV)
Ubuntu LTS

Hey,
for a longer time, I've been trying to install Windows 11 on my HP Pavilion Model 14 again, which did not work due to a driver issue ("Select a driver to make your hardware discoverable"). I tried downloading them from the official HP Page or other forum but they often ended up being "not supported" by Windows 11. Also, I coudn't run the .exe files because I switched to Linux because my Windows didn't work one day. Has someone experienced similar issues or has the correct driver? Thank you in advance!
Best Wishes

Ben

Hi, Ben:

If your PC came with Windows from HP and not FreeDOS, I suggest that you use the HP cloud recovery tool on another Windows PC and make a bootable USB recovery drive that will return the notebook's drive to its 'out of the box' condition.

Here is an info link for how to use the utility:

HP Consumer-PCs – Verwenden des HP Cloud Recovery Tools unter Windows 11 und Windows 10 | HP® Suppor...

Since you have to use the utility on another PC, the tool can't detect your notebook's product number which is uses to select the correct factory image from the cloud recovery tool database, you have to manually enter your notebook's product number in the tool's search window in order to proceed.

742H9AV is the product number for the entire model series.  You need to find the product number for your specific model notebook and the easiest way to do that would be to enter the serial number in the search window at the link below, and it should provide the product number for your notebook.

Once you get the right product number, you have to add #ABD to the right of the product number so the cloud recovery tool accepts it.

Regarding the driver:  Windows cannot find drives to install on PC's with the Intel 11th > 13th gen core processors.

The thing is, you would be getting a different message and you would already be at the section where you are asked 'Where do you want to install Windows,'  and then Window indicates it cannot find any drives to install on, so something else is wrong.

Did you use the official Microsoft media creation tool to create the bootable W11 installation media?

Download Windows 11

If not, try that and I have zipped up and attached the Intel Storage controller drivers needed for PC's with the 11th > 13th gen Core processors.

Unzip and copy all of the files in the folder in the attachment to a USB flash drive.

Have the flash drive and your Windows installation media plugged into USB ports.

Boot from the Windows installation flash drive.

When you get to the screen where no drives can be found, click on the Load driver option, browse to the flash drive with the storage controller drivers on it.

If you check the box, it will only include the compatible driver.

If Windows still can't find the drive, uncheck the box to include the compatible driver and try any of the ones listed.
