Hi, i received a hard disk error on my laptop, so i decided to do a fresh install an OS, i usually used a M2 ssd, and i wanted to make it install there. When i got into the windows installer, in select disk i coudnt find the m2 ssd. But when i checked my bios its there.

How do i install a windows and how to make it visible on the disk list?

I heard and researched about the RST but on my device operating but in the Operation system version. The windows 11 option isnt there.

My last Os before the erorr was windows 11.

My specs are i5-9th gen

Hi @Imc4ying,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  1. Is your M.2 SSD new or was it working before?
  2. When you say you received a “hard disk error,” was that a Windows error, or did it come from BIOS?
  3. Did you check if the SSD is initialized or if it had a previous partition style like GPT or MBR?

In the meantime, here are a few troubleshooting steps that usually help with M.2 detection issues on HP Omen laptops:

  1. Check BIOS Storage Settings:
    • Enter BIOS → look for SATA/NVMe configuration.
    • If it’s set to Intel RST (RAID), try switching to AHCI mode. Sometimes Windows installer doesn’t detect drives under RAID mode without extra drivers.
    • Make sure the drive is enabled.
  2. Load Intel RST Drivers During Installation:
    • If the BIOS is in RAID mode, the Windows installer may need the Intel Rapid Storage Technology (RST) driver.
    • You can download the RST driver from HP’s support site for your laptop model, put it on a USB, and during Windows setup, choose “Load Driver” when the installer doesn’t see your SSD.
  3. Check the SSD Health:
    • Since you got a hard disk error, it might be worth testing the SSD with a tool like CrystalDiskInfo or the manufacturer’s diagnostic tool (if you have access to another PC).
  4. Disk Initialization:
    • Boot from a Windows installer → press Shift + F10 to open a command prompt → run diskpart → list disk.
    • If your M.2 shows here, you may need to clean it (clean command in diskpart) and create a new partition before it appears in the installer. Warning: this will erase all data.

I hope this helps.
