HP Slim Desktop PC S01-pF3000i (6V2M1AV)

Windows 11 keeps freezing. Only cure is to force shut down and start up. Is this a Windows 11 bug?

Greetings @Alan7891

Welcome to the HP Forum.

This is a tough one to troubleshoot in a Forum because there are many causes:

- Corrupt: system files or drivers

- Thermal problem

- Hardware problem from the PSU to the MB

What W11 version are you using? W11 24H2 has been somewhat buggy with some hardware drivers.

However, I have W11 24H2 installed on many PCs and I am not having stability issues.

Did your PC ship from HP with W11? Did you force a W11 update to 24H2?

You may not be able to do the following tests or procedures because your PC is unstable.

Check System Files:

Open an Admin command prompt as follows:

Open Search then enter "command prompt". Right-click on the search result.

Select "Run as Administrator".

Enter the following commands, one at a time. Wait for each command to complete before running the next command.

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth note: the PC must be connected to the network when using the DISM command.

Enter the next command to verify system files are okay.

sfc /scannow

Check your PC's hardware using HP Diagnostics as follows:

Start the PC. Repeatedly tap the "ESC" key.

Select "F2". Run extensive system and component tests to confirm: a drive problem, a memory problem, or other component problem.

Check All Component Thermals:

Download and run HWiNFO portable to check component thermals and other component vitals.

W11 In-Place Upgrade:

You could try an in-place W11 upgrade if the PC remains stable long enough to complete the upgrade.

W11 in-place upgrade steps can be reviewed at this Site. This upgrade can be done within W11 by checking Settings>System>Recovery>Fix Problems using Windows Update.

You would have to swap in replacement components if none of the above troubleshooting steps fix the problem.

Regards
