HP Pavilion Laptop PC 15-eg3000 (78G46AV)

I am creating Windows 11 recovery image from  hp cloud recovery tool using 32 GB pendrive. Image started downloading  in pen drive and stops at 98% for 8 hours, I had to cancel the operation then.

Also when Image downloading beguns my internet data pack was finished, so I retry with new data pack and downloading continued from last retry point.

My question is what will be the size of OS recovery image? Because pendrive is only showing 28.6 GB storage. Do I need to use more than 32 GB pendrive?

Hi @Mohitjoshi1024,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The size of the Windows 11 recovery image can vary based on the specific version and the additional software included by HP for your HP Pavilion Laptop PC 15. Typically, a recovery image can range from 8 GB to 20 GB, but it could be larger if it includes extensive pre-installed software or additional recovery tools.

Here are some key points to consider.

  • USB Drive Capacity: While a 32 GB USB drive is often recommended for creating recovery media, the actual usable space is usually less than 32 GB due to the formatting and file system overhead. Your 32 GB USB drive showing 28.6 GB of available storage is normal.
  • Recovery Image Size: The exact size of the recovery image can vary, but it's generally designed to fit within a 32 GB USB drive. If the image is stopping at 98%, it might indicate that your drive is nearly full or there might be an issue with the download process itself.
  • Checking Available Space: Ensure that the USB drive is completely empty before starting the recovery image creation. Any existing files might reduce the available space and cause issues.
  • Retrying the Download: Since you mentioned the download stopped at 98% and you had internet issues, it's possible that the partial download didn't resume correctly. Make sure you have a stable internet connection throughout the process.
  • Using a Larger USB Drive: If you continue to face issues, you might want to try using a larger USB drive (e.g., 64 GB) to ensure there is ample space for the recovery image. This can help eliminate any potential issues related to insufficient storage.

Steps to Ensure Successful Recovery Image Creation:

  1. Empty USB Drive: Format the USB drive to ensure it is completely empty.
  2. Stable Internet Connection: Ensure you have a stable and sufficient internet connection to complete the download without interruptions.
  3. Check for Errors: Ensure there are no errors with the USB drive by running a check (e.g., using the Windows built-in error-checking tool).

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
