Hi @Fonz6116

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

The repeated error code 0x800706be during Windows 11 25H2 updates and BIOS update failures on your HP desktop point to a system-level communication fault, often caused by corrupted update components or blocked services. A clean update reset and manual BIOS install can help resolve both issues.

Here’s a focused guide to help restore update functionality and complete the BIOS upgrade:

1. Reset Windows Update Components

This clears corrupted update files and reinitializes services:

  • Open Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters.
  • Run the Windows Update troubleshooter and follow all prompts.
  • Then, open Command Prompt as Administrator and run these commands one at a time:
    net stop wuauserv
    net stop cryptSvc
    net stop bits
    net stop msiserver
    ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
    ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old
    net start wuauserv
    net start cryptSvc
    net start bits
    net start msiserver
  • Restart your PC and retry the update.

2. Download and Install Windows 11 25H2 Manually

This bypasses automatic update errors:

  • Visit the Windows 11 Download Page.
  • Click Download Now under Windows 11 Installation Assistant.
  • Run the tool and follow the prompts to install version 25H2.

If the assistant fails, use the Media Creation Tool to create installation media and perform an in-place upgrade.

3. Install HP BIOS Update Manually

This avoids Windows Update conflicts:

  • Visit the HP Software and Driver Downloads page.
  • Enter your desktop model and locate the BIOS update for ROM FAMILY SSID 8C44.
  • Download the BIOS update utility (usually ends in .exe).
  • Right-click the file > Run as administrator.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions and allow the system to reboot.

Ensure the PC is plugged into AC power and do not interrupt the process.

4. Disable Third-Party Security Temporarily

Security software can block update services:

  • Temporarily disable any third-party antivirus or firewall.
  • Retry the Windows and BIOS updates.
  • Re-enable protection after updates complete.

5. Check for BitLocker Conflicts

Some 25H2 updates trigger BitLocker recovery:

If BitLocker is active, avoid forced shutdowns during updates.

Let me know how the system responds after these steps. If updates still fail, I can help you isolate whether it’s a service conflict, firmware lock, or deeper OS corruption.
