Compaq Presario SR2030NX
Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit)
I'm going to upgrade the OS from XP to Windows 7 and was wondering if the Windows 7 Installation Disc had all the Drivers needed for the Hardware in Device Manager. If not, does anyone know what Driver(s) I will need that the Installation Disc does not provide? Thanks!

If you post the hardware id of the device with missing driver we can usually track it down. Right click the device and choose Properties. In the window that opens go to Details tab. Use the dropdown to select hardware id. Post the first half of the top line- such as PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8168.

Thanks for your help. Yesterday I was finally able to do a test install via burned Image of a Win7 Home Premium 64-bit iso download from Microsoft. There is only one Driver missing in Device Manager. I'll send a DM screen-shot showing the missing Driver when my friend gets the Win7 Media (32-bit & 64-bit) with License around Sept. 21 - it only cost $33 delivered from a very reliable e-Bay Dealer. By process of elimination, it will hopefully be easy to determine what's missing. It sure runs fast compared to WinXP minus all the pre-installed bloat ware - has 2GB Memory and AMD single-core CPU. Re: Cheryl G

Good news. Following your Hardware ID reminder (it's ACPI\AWY0001), found the solution here - needed AMD Away Mode Driver, Paul Tikkanen, another Provost.

Here's a screenshot of Device Manager from the original Windows 7 64-bit Installation CD burned from iso. It shows the Sound Driver was also not up to date - needed Realtec provided as an Optional Update in Windows Update.

Here's another showing the Hardware ID.

Important P.S. to my Post above.

It is VERY disappointing that HP has removed Driver Support from their PCs after 10 years - even the ftp site (including Maintenance and Service Guides for disassembly, Memory upgrades, HDD replacement, etc.). It's like HP is building in PC obsolescence for most Users. Someone from HP needs to restore those. However, I found this EXCELLENT website which appears to have complete legacy driver sets for old PCs.

It's legit, tested with www.virustotal.com and the SR2030NX Windows XP chipset sp26802 found above has a valid VeriSign Digital Signature from HP. At first I thought the Device Manager issue was chipset related, so that's how I found the source above. Anyway, this is better than driverguide.com in how it is organized. Just type in your PC Model upper right as I did using SR2030NX. OUgrad

Re: CherylG Since I can't add what I found to your original Answer that included Realtec, I'm adding your reply on 9/14/17 as another Answer that enabled me to find the missing AMD Away Mode Driver. Someone needs to add your 9/14/17 reply to the Answer. It seems only one Answer is allowed. I have NO option to do so in this reply window, possibly because I'm using Dialup Internet which may be the problem. OUgrad

Forgot to mention above that the AMD Away Mode Driver is also an nVidia Windows 7 Chipset Driver as Paul Tikkanen notes farther down in his Discussion Thread linked above. It certainly acted like a Chipset in that we tried twice to install the Realtec Windows Update Driver, but it failed both times BEFORE installing the AMD Away Mode/nVidia Chipset Driver. So, my original suspicion mentioned above of a missing Chipset Driver was confirmed. OUgrad
