Open letter to all who wish to use an OEM OS CD from one maker to another makers computer regardless of OS or format. This is what I mean.
It has been my experience that ANY OEM OS CD can be used on ANY OTHER computer of a different make.
There are only TWO things to concider here---
The OS to be installed MUST be the same for BOTH computers, XP PRO/HOME to XP PRO/HOME, WIN 7 to WIN 7 same flavor.
2nd thing is the COA from the DONER machine MUST be the same version as the TARGET machine.
In other words if the OEM is win 7 pro to be installed on an HP, the HP coa MUST also be win 7 pro. The DELL OEM wll install asking for a product key. Use the HP coa instead. The process will continue. When you get to the last NAME screen enter your name or handle, click NEXT and you will be presented with THANK YOU screen. NEXT/ FINISH again and the raw desktop will be presented. Customize from there.
NOTE--- HP uses a RESTORE set of CDs that includes a model specific "RESTORE PLUS" cd followed by one or more OS CDs, LANGUAGE PACK, and SUPPLEMENTAL CDs, which you can ignore.
If you are using HP to DELL install simply start with the HP OS, enter the DELL COA and proceed. It has always worked for me.
As long as the OS version OEM matches the TARGET OS VERSION KEY it will work.
You may need to downlard hardware drivers for your target desktop but that should be easy. In the event you do not have GRAPHICS on the screen, you can try to install the targets hdd into the donars desktop, even with the use of a cable sdapter, then download the GRAPHICS driver for your target desktops hdd, then reinstall hdd into the target, customize from there including sound driver, and nic driver. A sound card and usb powered nic or sound adapter can be used if drivers are not available for targets model.
This is not as complicated as it seems. Hope this helps.
