I reinstalled my Windows 8 OS, with HP Recovery Media Disc, three days ago, only to recieve this message:
I have reinstalled Windows a few times, and am very familiar with the process. In the past, after completing the download, I simply went to Windows Activation and clicked "Activate" and it was done, no "Product Key" required.
I Immediately called Microsoft, and was in formed that my install was "Blocked". I called back yesterday only to be told that my Copies of HP RM were ""Not Valid" and to contact HP Support for a "Valid" product Key.
I looked up my Microsoft Licenses information today:
This is what I read. I went from "Blocked" to "Not Valid" to "Grace Time Expired".
Can anyone enlighten me?
Thanks,
Phillip

Hi Chimney,
Read your article, very helpful and informative. I did as one paragraph suggested and phoned Microsoft Support. I explained the fact that I had upgraded to Windows 10 for free from an eligible Hewlett-Packard P.C. with a factory installed genuine copy of Windows 8, also I explained the fact that my device has a "Microsoft Digital License" also known as (Digital Entitlement).
My last activation of Windows 10 was initiated through my Microsoft account, which is fortunate, because they have a means to verify the legitimate install.
The Support person took control of my PC, and did some research. Eventually she ask me did I have a receipt or proof of purchase. Fourtunally I had Best Buy email me a reciept. I saved it in my HP email folder. I was able to retrieve it. She verified it, and a few minutes later she presented me with a brand new Genuine Windows Product Key.
I do not know what happened at Microsoft with my Digital Licenses, or why I was blocked. But as luck would have it, I had my reciept.
Moral of the story, always SAVE YOUR RECIEPT...
Thanks once again Chimney for your invaluable advice!

Greetings @vpiPhillip,
Thanks for the post.
I understand that you are facing issue with activation of Windows 8 on your computer. Happy to help.
Was the recovery kit created on the same computer?
Recommend you to try activation options suggested in the article.
Please use the recovery kit on the computer where it was created.
If you are using a recovery kit created on any other computer, you might face activation issues.
To the best of my knowledge, I will not be able to generate a new product key for any computer.
Let me know if this helped.
