Yes flash drives were detected I think you mean SD cards as well as I call thumb drives all detected . Is there a way I can put the Diagnostic program on the empty hard drive to where it could be conneced by USB and to format it ? There is nothing wrong with it now . Thanks Gene

@Genel41

It looks like you were interacting with @MrRobot but he's out for the day

And Since I'm back, I'll be glad to help 😉

As MrRobot had mentioned before, if the flash drives aka thumb drives are being detected and yet the WD hard drive isn't detected - it's a hardware issue within the WD drive,

However, If the WD drive isn't being detected on USB ports using an external USB connector, you can use the disk management to format the drive.

Either way, you'll need to contact Western Digital to obtaining any diagnostics programs you need to optimize or use the WD drive.

If I have helped you resolve the issue, feel free to give me a virtual high-five by clicking the 'Thumbs Up' icon below,

Followed by clicking on "Accept as solution" from the drop-down menu on the upper right corner,

Thank you for posting in the HP Support Forum.  Have a great day!
