Hello, through a series of errors and dumb mistakes the drive Windows 10 was installed on was erased. I currently have linux installed to use the computer, but was wondering if it would it be possible to get Windows 10 back without needed to buy an activation key?

Hi:

Your PC is supported.

You have to enter the full product number 1K0C3AA#ABA

I have zipped up and attached the Cloud recovery tool software.

Some forum members have indicated that they have a hard time trying to find it.

Hi:

If your PC came with W10 from HP, the W10 product key is encrypted in your PC's BIOS.

You won't need the key to reinstall W10.

Check your PC's product number and see if it is supported by the HP cloud recovery tool.

Cloud Recovery (d34z73bbtpzgej.cloudfront.net)

If it is, the HP cloud recovery tool can be used to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall W10, the drivers and the software that originally came with your notebook.

You will need to use another PC running W7 64 bit or newer and a 32 GB USB flash drive.

Here is an info link for how to use the cloud recovery tool:

HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool in Windows 11 and 10 | HP® Customer Support

You can also use the Microsoft Media Creation tool to create a W10 installation flash drive and clean install W10.

Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)

On the website page for that recovery tool it seems to indicate that any consumer PC made after 2016 is supported, yet when I enter what I think is my product number it says it's not supported. (I purchased the computer in 2021 new). So I'm not sure if maybe I entered the wrong product number or if my PC is not supported.

Hello, I added my computer on I think my dashboard, which is where I got the product number. It says the product number is 1K0C3AA, which I think matches with the third link you provided. Which shows as not supported for the HP Cloud Recovery Tool, so is my computer indeed not supported?

Oh, may I ask where the #ABA comes from? And thank you!

HP Recommended

The #ABA should be listed in your BIOS' system information window.

The characters that appear to the right of the # sign is the county code where the PC is sold.
