QY449AT HP Wireless Keyboard
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have just purchased and installed a new HP wireless keyboard and mouse with multimedia keys to replace an old Microsoft multimedia wireless keyboard.

According to the instructions I found online I can toggle between standard F keys (1 to 12) and multimedia keys, by pressing FN + esc however this does not work. They are permanently set to F1 to F12.

The only way I have been able to use the multimedia keys is to press the "FN" at the same time. EG FN + F11 to increase volume.

I have tried to remove the keyboard driver and re-install but this made no difference.

Is this limitation a bug or a "feature" or am I doing something wrong.

I guess I can live with it but I hardly ever use the regular F keys but I do use the multimedia ones quite a bit.

Many thanks for any crumbs of advice.

Tony

Hello @TonyVCarter – Hope you are well 🙂

Thank you for becoming an HP Forum member. It is a great location to get help from the community, get suggestions and find what has worked for others.

I understand that you are trying to configure your HP wireless keyboard so that it is not necessary to press and hold the “Fn” key.

Let me start by telling you that this feature is only applicable on certain PC models. You can try and disable this feature from your PC by disabling the feature from BIOS. You can follow the steps mentioned here: http://hp.care/2eAsVG7

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.

Good luck & Wish you a very happy new year 🙂

Dear Dvortex

Thank you for such a quick, personalised response to my question. Your understanding was perfect.

Unfortunately my PC is a destop machine ( HP Pavilion 550 I7 6700 N8X32EA#ABU  SN CZC541131T) and does not have that version of BIOS with the "Action Keys Mode" function - at least not that I can see and I have been through all the options.

Should I accept that this particular machine does not have the function. If that is the case I can manage.  😞

Kind regards

Tony

I understand that the "Action Keys Mode" function is not available in this model.

This model may have limited features which cannot be changed.
