hp intel 9th gen, It’s a long story and after trying to update to Windows 11 and 1 day of no issues I kept getting error messages and it went to repair update but it wouldn’t work. On 9/18 the bitlocker message pops up and demands the code but my keyboard won’t let me type letters now.
I was able to finally check the system with diagnostics testing and everything passed but when I exit the bitlocker recovery key code is required

Hi @Coop1956,

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're stoked to have you on board!

To help us get started on resolving your issue, could you please share the model name of your device?

Meanwhile, you can try these steps:

Use an External USB Keyboard

Sometimes the built-in keyboard won’t work in the recovery environment.

Connect a USB keyboard (wired is best) and see if you can type the recovery key.

Check the Correct Recovery Key

Log in to your Microsoft account on another device: https://account.microsoft.com/devices/recoverykey

Make sure you’re using the exact key for this device.

Try Different Keyboard Layouts

On the BitLocker screen, click “Keyboard Layout” if available.

Ensure it matches your usual layout (like US QWERTY).

Boot into Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE)

Power off your laptop.

Power it on and press Esc repeatedly, then F11 to enter Recovery Manager.

From there, you can try Troubleshoot → Advanced Options → Command Prompt.

If you can access Command Prompt, you can unlock the drive with:

manage-bde -unlock C: -RecoveryPassword YOUR-RECOVERY-KEY

(replace YOUR-RECOVERY-KEY with your actual 48-digit BitLocker key)

Disable BitLocker Temporarily (if you can access Windows)

If you manage to unlock the drive and log in, go to Control Panel → BitLocker Drive Encryption → Suspend Protection.

This prevents the recovery loop until the system stabilizes.

Check BIOS Settings

Enter BIOS (Esc → F10 at startup).

Ensure Secure Boot and TPM are enabled (BitLocker relies on TPM).

Some updates or changes can confuse BitLocker and trigger recovery mode.

Last Resort: Recovery USB

If nothing works, create a Windows 11 bootable USB on another PC.

Boot from it → Repair your PC → Command Prompt → Unlock BitLocker with your recovery key.

This keeps your data safe without reinstalling Windows.

I hope this helps.
