the PC boots off the DVD and (also try with USB) with no problems but when it reaches the "Select a language" Linux 8.04.1 window, the mouse and keyboard (using ps2 port) stop working so I can not continue with the installation.
i keep legacy system enale and secure boot disable.
Does anyone know how I can overcome this problem? I aslo update BIOS and now using version 02.20 06/05/2017?

Hi
It is possible that the keyboard/mouse combination is not supported.
Can you try a later version of Ubuntu
For example, for 8.04 LTS to 16.04.3 LTS or 17.10?
The later versions will support Secure Boot, or

Let it install with the default language, probably US English, and then change it immediately afterwards.

Your computer: http://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/GetPDF.aspx/c04818335.pdf
has both USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 ports:
Try connecting your keyboard & mouse to the USB 2.0 ports, and then try to install UBUNTU 16 or 17.

This could be UBUNTU automatically downloading many updates, and thus "freezing" during those updates. Maybe.
Did you try installing UBUNTU 16 ?

ubuntu 16 and 17 are working properly on this PC (no hanging problem). but
basically, i have to install ubuntu 8.04.1 because there are different softwares on which i want to work further, and these software can only be installed on 8.04.1 linux version. it is therefore requested, please check and guide me, how to overcome this problem..
