Hi @Gachaeevee,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like the issue could involve improper initialization or configuration of the SSDs in the BIOS. Here's a step-by-step approach to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:
Verify BIOS Settings
Enter the BIOS:
- Power on the laptop and repeatedly press the appropriate key to enter the BIOS/UEFI (e.g., Esc, F2, F10, or Del—check your model's manual).
Check Storage Configuration:
- Ensure the SATA/AHCI mode is set correctly (usually "AHCI").
- Verify that the storage device list includes your SSDs.
Boot Order:
- Make sure the boot order is set correctly, with the SSD containing the operating system as the primary boot device.
Test with a Bootable USB
Create a bootable USB drive with a Windows installation media (use the Windows Media Creation Tool).
Boot the laptop from the USB:
- Insert the USB drive and restart the laptop.
- Select the boot menu (key varies, usually F9, F12, or similar).
- Choose the USB drive.
Once in the installer:
Open the repair tools.
Navigate to Command Prompt and use the diskpart tool to check SSD recognition:
- Type diskpart → list disk.
Verify if the SSDs appear here.
Check the SSD Connections
Physical Connections:
- Ensure the SSDs are securely seated in the M.2 or SATA slot.
- Inspect the SSD for visible damage.
Test SSDs in Another PC:
- Remove the SSDs and test them in another system to confirm they’re recognized.
Reinitialize or Repair the Bootloader
Old SSD Issue:
- If the old SSD no longer appears:
- It might have become corrupted or damaged during the swap. Check it on another PC.

Recreate Bootloader on New SSD:
- Boot from the Windows USB.
- Select Repair your computer → Troubleshoot → Command Prompt.
- Run the following commands:
bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot
bootrec /scanos
bootrec /rebuildbcd
Consider Reinstallation
If the SSD appears but won’t boot:
- Backup any important data using another PC.
- Format the new SSD and perform a clean Windows installation.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
