Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi.

I have been asked to upgrade several PC's on a domain to new improved versions.

I would like the simplest method to clone from the old to the new.

I have cloned many machines in the past but am checking how it should best be done with modern licensing and Motherboards etc.

The pc's have lots of different software on them and I do not at this point even want to look at starting with a fresh install and trying to add all the software.

So my question is initially whether if i choose the next generation of the same HP type machine it is likely that on (cloning the machine) windows 10 will sort the drivers etc. and boot up and everything should work. Or is it only possible using a piece of software from the likes of EASUS that supposedly can clone to different hardware.

The machines are on a domain BTW so I suspect i will need to remove from AD and re attach when finished?

I assume the Win 10 licence on the new pc will cover the need for a new one when cloning?

Thanks for your help.

Regards

Neil

You may want to try a clone out and see how well it works and if it is suitable for you.

By mistake I booted up an drive (win10) from a Biostar TB85  on a Dell 7010. All  the drivers got fixed and the system activated because it was registered earlier.  I had misplaced the correct drive.

Some problems you might run into but I am guessing

Secure boot - probably will have to disable, take control then enable.

Diagnostic / update apps:  Do not let them try to update the bios as the backup in the EFI partition is  not the right one anymore. Should you try to recover from a bios problem the wrong one will get it.

Licensed apps. (1) You may have to log in to the server and "delete" from old computer and "add" to new one even if the same name.  (2) Some older software may not allow activation.  Acrobat 8 and "X" Adobe no longer allows activation even if you can prove you paid for it and have a key.  There is probably other apps.

I assume you will  talk this over with the sales agent and get support.
