Welcome to our HP Community forum!
Chances are that a failed Long Drive Self-Test means your hard drive or SSD is failing and will likely stop working completely soon.
- Step 1: Back up your files. Save your important photos, documents, and data to an external USB drive or a cloud storage service right away.
- Step 2: Check your warranty. Visit the HP Support website to see if your desktop is still covered. If it is, HP will replace the drive for free.
- Step 3: Replace the drive. If you are out of warranty, you will need to purchase a new 3.5-inch SATA internal hard drive or a 2.5-inch SATA SSD to replace the failed one.
- Step 4: Reinstall Windows. After installing the new drive, use a USB recovery drive to install a fresh copy of Windows.

@NonSequitur777 's reply is spot on. Do this Step 1: Back up your files right away. Do that before doing anything else, even if you send it away for service. The service center may replace the drive, if covered, but will not backup you files or transfer them to a new drive. That is the user's responsibility.
