@Ju721,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

Chances are that a failed Long Drive Self-Test means your hard drive or SSD is failing and will likely stop working completely soon.

Because this is a hardware failure, it cannot be fixed with software. You must back up your data immediately to prevent losing your files, and then replace the drive.

Recommended Action Plan:

  • Step 1: Back up your files. Save your important photos, documents, and data to an external USB drive or a cloud storage service right away.
  • Step 2: Check your warranty. Visit the HP Support website to see if your desktop is still covered. If it is, HP will replace the drive for free.
  • Step 3: Replace the drive. If you are out of warranty, you will need to purchase a new 3.5-inch SATA internal hard drive or a 2.5-inch SATA SSD to replace the failed one.
  • Step 4: Reinstall Windows. After installing the new drive, use a USB recovery drive to install a fresh copy of Windows.

Would you like step-by-step instructions on how to back up your data before the drive fails completely, or do you need help finding a compatible replacement drive?

Kind Regards,
