My Z400 Workstation has a XEON W3520 CPU do I have to stay in the "W" series of XEONs say a W3690 or can I use others?

I see the list stops at w3570 4 core is there a possibility that this was writen before the w3690 6 core became available or am i reaching? someone told me I could use it but I want to be sure. I believe that hp used it in the higher number workstations. I am not sure how to research this
