You are correct.

However, you can't/shouldn't have two antivirus programs running at the same time, so most likely Windows Defender is turned off/disabled if AVG is running.

So, here's what you do...uninstall AVG in the Windows control panel>programs>uninstall a program.

After AVG has been successfully uninstalled, restart the PC and enable Windows defender by following the guidance below:

Open Settings > Privacy & Security > click Windows Security > click Virus & Threat Protection > click Virus & Threat Protection settings > Turn ON Real-time protection.

You don't need either one of those programs on your PC.

I agree with Paul. AVG (and its sister product Avast) are OK at antivirus, but they'll nag you with endless invitations to upgrade your protection. Stay far away from PC Cleaner, CCleaner and other tools like them. They're bad news.

who would you suggest for anti virus and should i un install  the avg ??

I have always used the Windows Defender antivirus/antimalware program that comes built into Windows.

hopefully only one more question .

There is a defender built into my windows 11? Do i need to do anything to activate it?

so AVG has never been needed !  Am i on the right track ?
