does not boot , would like to install linux

Since Windows is actually booting, then you have to enter the BIOS and tell it to look at the USB for boot control.  In order to enter the BIOS to pick USB as the boot option, it needs to be done before Windows takes over.  Once the PC start button is pressed, start tapping ESC or F10, so you can enter the BIOS and then change the Boot Options to use the USB, F9

Made a linux on a usb key and will try as you explained even thou I have tried that before, will report. tks a lot

Hello again - since this PC is a hand-over, I have to do some tricks to make me the admin and then install things hence I cannot install Linux presently. I did install my faithful WordPerfect X7 from the original disk and win says there is something wrong  on this Win10 PC. If I wish to continue using Win10 and add Linux to it, I must be admin not user only.  Thats my next challenge, Saw how to do it on youTube. maybe should I forget about Win10 and do all to have this PC on Linux only so what say Old Man ?  Thank you very much for your help

If you wish to have Windows 10 and Linux, that is possible.  Probably should reinstall a fresh Windows and then Linux with a dual boot option.

You can make the Windows install and do a clean install, then add Linux, or just wipe the harddrive and install Linux.  With a working PC, You can make the Windows install media from here:

microsoft.com/software-download/windows10

Scroll down to the "Create Windows 10 installation media" and follow the directions.

Once the media in created, you need to boot the PC to that new media.
