In Microsoft Windows, to "drag" takes a few steps:

1. move the mouse-pointer over a a file, or a folder, and continue to hold-down the mouse-button;

2. while holding-down the mouse-button, move the mouse-pointer into a different window.

Then, to "drop" means to release the mouse-button.

Example: open Microsoft Word, and "restore down" so that its window does not completely fill the screen.

Open a folder, and "restore down", and move the mouse-pointer to point to a Microsoft Word document.

Do that "half-click" to hold-down the mouse-button over the object.

Now, move the mouse-pointer to "drag" the object into the Microsoft Word window.

Release the mouse-button to "drop" the object into Microsoft Word.

This method is called "object-oriented", because your focus is on the object.

You may be more familiar with "application-oriented": Open the Word application, Click File, Click Open, Click on a Filename, Click Open.
