Hi @NateD001,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

I'm sorry to hear about the ongoing issues with your HP Victus 15L gaming desktop. It can be frustrating to try multiple solutions without success, especially when it prevents you from even reinstalling the OS. Let’s tackle this step by step to resolve the problem.

  • When your PC shuts down, does it display any specific error message, or does it turn off suddenly without warning?
  • What method are you using to create the bootable flash drive (e.g., Microsoft Media Creation Tool)? Have you tried using a different USB drive?
  • Have you checked the power supply unit (PSU) or hardware components to rule out physical issues causing the shutdowns?

Let's try these steps.

Step 1: Verify Flash Drive and Boot Configuration

  • Ensure the USB flash drive is created correctly using the Microsoft Media Creation Tool.
  • Verify that the BIOS/UEFI is set to boot from the USB drive:
    1. Restart the PC and enter the BIOS/UEFI (usually by pressing F10, Esc, or Del during startup).
    2. Check the Boot Options menu and ensure USB is prioritized in the boot order.
    3. Disable Secure Boot temporarily to allow the system to recognize non-default bootable media.

Step 2: Run Hardware Diagnostics

  • Before attempting a clean installation, check for hardware issues:
    1. Power off the PC and turn it on while pressing Esc repeatedly to access the startup menu.
    2. Select System Diagnostics and run a comprehensive test on components like the CPU, RAM, and hard drive.
    3. If errors are detected, address these first, as they may be causing the shutdowns.

Step 3: Create a New Bootable Drive

  • If the flash drive is not recognized:
    1. Recreate the bootable USB using a different USB drive or re-download the ISO to ensure there’s no corruption.
    2. Use a reliable tool like Rufus (if not using the Microsoft tool) and select the correct partition scheme (GPT/MBR) matching your BIOS configuration.

Step 4: Check Power Supply and Hardware

  • Random shutdowns could be caused by:
    1. A faulty power supply unit (PSU). Check if the PSU fan is running and inspect for unusual noises or overheating.
    2. Overheating components. Ensure the CPU and GPU fans are functional and that the system is free of dust buildup.

Step 5: Attempt the Installation on Another PC

  • If the flash drive works on another PC, the issue might be with your Victus desktop’s USB ports or BIOS settings.
  • If the flash drive fails on another PC, recreate it as described above or test with a different USB drive.

Recommendations

  • Log Critical Errors: Note the times and specific details of the Kernel-Power (Event ID 41) errors in Event Viewer. They often point to hardware or power-related issues.
  • Firmware Update: Check for any BIOS/UEFI updates for your HP Victus 15L. An outdated firmware version might cause issues with USB recognition or power management.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
