Envy 34 curved all in one
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Fan operates continuously at high speed after windows 10 v1903 update. MS performed a clean install of windows 10 pro, checked bios, updates, running programs, etc. with no resolution even at senior technical support levels. The other seemingly unsolvable issue is the IR camera failure which MS attributes to incompatibility with HP supported drivers. I understand updates are necessary to provide security and operational enhancements however, they tend to create other problems which have complicated or delayed solutions.

Any help on the fan would be greatly appreciated.....especially since it is a known problem.

Greetings,

Welcome back to the forum.

I am not a HP employee.

It is good to provide a complete HP product number (Link) when requesting forum assistance. HP may be providing new W10 1903 drivers for your PC. Or there may be a BIOS update to fix this.

Some process or multiple processes in Task Manager could be causing the CPU or chassis cooling fan to freak out. Do you know which fan is going crazy?

Have you checked system temperatures?

Have you restarted your PC since the 1903 update?

A IR camera failure suggests you need an updated driver. HP may have to provide this.

Have you run Windows update multiple times to check for newer Microsoft provided hardware drivers?

Windows operating system updates can sometimes cause anomalous problems.

Very hard to diagnose using provided data.

Regards

Same computer, same problem with fan running after latest 1903 update. Plus, my desktop background had to be reloaded. Thinking it is a driver issue?

I have been working with senior Microsoft support engineers on this and other problems surfacing from version 1903. My computer is 19 months old and has not had a problem until the latest Windows update. We have tried all your recommendations plus a few more without success. A clean install of Windows 10 Pro prior to the 1903 update fixed the fan problem, which returned after the mandatory update was installed. Since Microsoft does not feel responsible for driver updates or messing with the BIOS, I suspect these may be responsible for the conflicting issues that are appearing. Since 1903 was released only a month or so ago, there will be many more concerned users surfacing in a short time. My work around options are to set the sleep mode timer to minimum giving the fan time to rest, and sign in with a PIN instead of using "Windows Hello".

Of interest is that the disk temperature never exceeds 91 degrees F which is within spec.......

What's the potential harm in letting the fan run?

The fan is designed to run at variable speeds and is controlled by a heat sensor. Letting the fan run continuously at full speed can only result in failure prior to its intended life cycle.
