@mortyp, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to help the customer recover files from their old Windows 10 PC hard drive and transfer them to their new HP All-in-One Desktop PC 24-cr1000i running Windows 11:What You’ll Need:

  • The old hard drive (already removed)
  • A SATA to USB adapter or external hard drive enclosure
  • The new HP All-in-One Desktop PC 24-cr1000i

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Step 1: Connect the Old Hard Drive to the New PC

  1. Use a SATA to USB adapter or an external hard drive enclosure to connect the old hard drive to your new PC via USB.
  2. Once connected, Windows 11 should automatically detect the drive and assign it a drive letter (e.g., D:\ or E:).

If the drive doesn’t show up, open Disk Management (Right-click Start > Disk Management) to check if it’s recognized but not assigned a letter.

Step 2: Access and Copy Your Files

  1. Open File Explorer and navigate to the connected drive.
  2. Browse to:
    • C:\Users\[Your Old Username]
  3. Copy folders like:
    • Documents
    • Pictures
    • Desktop
    • Downloads
    • Any other personal folders

If you get a "Permission Denied" error, right-click the folder > Properties > Security > Advanced, and take ownership of the folder.

Step 3: Paste Files to Your New PC

  1. Open your new PC’s user folder (C:\Users\[Your New Username])
  2. Paste the copied files into the appropriate folders.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
