i had to buy a new motherboard for my desktop and it says operating system is not activated. i done a factory restore and it still says windows 8 build 9200.

and how come my desktop dont have a product key

Your desktop DID have a Windows product key -- but it was encoded into the UEFI firmware of the original motherboard. And when you discarded that motherboard, you also discarded the key -- and HP is under no obligation to provide you a second key, and you can not purchase HP OEM product keys.

 

So basically, at this point, you would have to purchase a Windows key to match the version that you installed.
