Hi @Willow661,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The 3F1 error code on your HP Pavilion Desktop PC typically indicates that the system cannot detect a bootable hard disk, which could be due to a variety of causes, including issues with the hard drive itself or the connections.

Here are some steps you can try to resolve the error.

Reset BIOS Defaults

  • Turn off the PC.
  • Turn it back on, and as soon as it starts booting, press the F10 key repeatedly to enter the BIOS setup.
  • In the BIOS menu, find an option to "Load Setup Defaults" (or "Restore Defaults").
  • Save changes and exit the BIOS.
  • Restart the computer to see if the issue is resolved.

Check Hard Drive Connections

  • Turn off the computer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Open the side panel and make sure that the hard drive’s SATA and power cables are securely connected to both the drive and the motherboard.

Run Hard Drive Diagnostics

  • Restart your PC and press the F2 key repeatedly to access the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics menu.
  • Select the System Tests, then choose the Hard Drive Test to check the status of your drive.
    • If the test detects an issue, the hard drive might need to be replaced.

Boot into Safe Mode (if possible)

  • Restart the PC and press F8 or Shift + F8 (on some systems) to enter Safe Mode.
  • If you can boot into Safe Mode, back up your data immediately and consider replacing or repairing the hard drive.

Replace the Hard Drive (if needed)

  • If none of the above steps work and the hard drive diagnostics indicate failure, you may need to replace the hard drive.
    • After replacing it, reinstall the operating system from your recovery media or an installation USB stick.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
